Conserving beautiful and vulnerable landscapes.

The Westport Land Conservation Trust and The Trustees of Reservations announced on October 20th, 2008 that they are moving forward with the purchase of the Oscar Palmer Farm on Adamsville Road.  The Palmer Farm is a cultural landmark in Westport and has within its 28+ acres many attributes of historic, agricultural and scenic value to the Town, such as a cemetery, farm outbuildings, a network of stonewalls and the exterior of the farmhouse itself.  Also of note is the Angeline Brook, an ecologically significant cold water stream that passes through the property on its way to the Land Trust's Herb Hadfield Conservation Area and on to the West Branch of the Westport River.
For more information and to make a donation to the Palmer Farm Campaign, please contact The Westport Land Conservation Trust, 1100D Main Road, P.O. Box 3975, 508-636-9228.  Help us and our partners save this farm for the future of Westport.

The Westport Land Conservation Trust

As one of the last coastal farming communities in Massachusetts, Westport has a unique variety of landscapes, from the East and West Branches of the Westport River to neighboring farmlands, quiet woodlands, pristine beaches, and fertile marshes. All who know Westport appreciate these landscapes and their irreplaceable contribution to Westport's agricultural heritage, natural beauty, and traditional way of life. In 1972, recognizing the vital importance of Westport's natural resources, and the need for community involvement in preserving them, a group of local residents formed the Westport Land Conservation Trust. Since then, the land trust has joined the efforts of various Town and State agencies to help many Westport property owners protect their land in keeping with its simple mission:

To acquire and preserve natural resources, farmland and wildlife areas for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations; to preserve and protect historic sites; to educate the public about the wise use of natural resources; and to work with other organizations having similar purposes.
